Whatever we do, there has to be a purpose – a good purpose.
We do not live to entertain ourselves. Yes, that does not mean we live as boring souls who do not know how to have fun. But, i believe that even ‘fun’ has to have some rationale behind it.
Why? It’s because we only have one life! And, what is our purpose of life? This life is just a vehicle to bring us to the afterlife. If we don’t use it effectively, we will not reach the afterlife safe and sound!
Our greatest gift is the gift of life. Right? And, time is life!
If we spend our precious time on something, we better be able to answer at least one of the following questions in a positive light:
1) Did it benefit us by improving our health or wealth?
2) Did it strengthen the relationship with our family members, friends, neighbors or the community at large?
3) Did it increase our love for Allah swt and His beloved saw? Or, did it make us forget them?
4) Did we gain any beneficial knowledge?
5) Did it positively impact the society?
6) Did it help the poor, the injured, the weak, the oppressed, the homeless, the needy, the elderly, the orphans?
7) Did it build our character?
8) Did it improve our personality?
9) Did it teach someone something beneficial?
Seriously, if we can’t answer well to any of the above questions, then we have successfully just KILLED our time which is life and thus we are just killing ourselves.
